Built in 1604, the Basilica of Bom Jesus houses the holy relics of St Francis Xavier. St. Francis Xavier died on Sancian Island while enroute to mainland China on 2 December, 1552. The body of the saint has been kept at the Basilica since 1554. The remains of the saint attract a huge number of devotees from all over the world specially during the public viewing of his body which takes place every ten years.
A visit to Goa will be incomplete without a visit to this beautiful and holy site. The Basilica of Bom Jesus is located in Old Goa about 10 kms from Panjim.
